Why should you consider volunteering for BCCC?
There are countless reasons why people volunteer for working at Brazil-Canada Chamber of Commerce. You may start with a desire to work for a non-profit organization, willing to help a business that is growing, perhaps learn a new language, or meet new people. Through your assigned work and interactions with members and interested people, you’ll gain a better understanding of a broad variety of business sectors and industries, as well as the issues that affect commerce between countries with a special approach for Brazil and Canada.
As a BCCC Volunteer you have the extraordinary opportunity to create beneficial change and have a positive impact on Businesses that influence the Brazil-Canada relationship, trade and commerce. Even if your assignment is short, it can have a long-term impact and achieve a ripple effect that extends far beyond the immediate beneficiaries of your efforts. Or if you have a long assignment you could see how important your work is and how it helps BCCC on providing tools and resources for anyone interested on investing, exporting, and/or importing in either Canada or Brazil.
What BCCC expects and looks for are people that carry diverse characteristics
- An interest, desire, and/or willingness to do good;
- Contributing time, skills, and energy towards something that doesn’t benefit only one’s self, friends, or family
- Not expecting any sort of reimbursement or payment in return for one’s efforts.
The Right Volunteer opportunity
In addition to the country and type of work you would like to participate in, there are many other factors to consider in choosing a job opportunity that is right for you. For some positions we cannot guarantee the quality or level of responsibility of the opportunities listed on our program, so it is important to ask for all information you need before starting your volunteer job.
First, take a moment to reflect upon your own motivations for volunteering:
- Why do you want to become a BCCC volunteer?
- What people, events, and experiences have led to your interest in volunteering for BCCC?
- What do you hope to get out of the experience?
- What do you hope to contribute?
- How do you see BCCC volunteering affecting your life?
- Where do you see yourself in five years?
While there is not just one ‘right’ reason to volunteer for BCCC, it is important to realize that different motivations can lead to different types of activities.
Volunteer Categories
Because there could be numerous kinds of opportunities, we created two categories that Volunteers could join.
Volunteer Categories
| Category |
Description |
Job Length |
| Supporter Volunteer |
Supporter volunteers work on a specific assigned job on BCCC events. |
In general 1 or 2 days |
| Assistant Volunteer |
The assistant volunteer works on a recurring assignment for a period of time. In this category the volunteer will be counted as part of the BCCC staff and will follow a schedule. The assigned program could be done mostly at the BCCC office or remotely. However for those volunteers that won’t work regularly at BCCC office, they should have time-to-time follow up appointments. This schedule will be created together with your BCCC Coordinator. |
The Assistant Volunteer is a minimum of 3-month program and maximum 6 months. |
