Brazilian Mining Sector seeks new business in Canada

Category: News, Press-release

Brazilian mining sector organizations, as well as the federal government, are going to present investors and businessmen with new business opportunities that are on Brazil’s horizon for the coming decades. There are solid prospects for initiatives ranging from geological research to the implementation of large-scale mining projects.

This will be the essence of the Brazilian delegation’s participation in the 88th annual convention of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada – PDAC (www.pdac.ca/convention), the annual mineral exploration and mining convention that takes place from March 1st to 4th. The # PDAC2020 will be held in the city of Toronto, Canada.

The organizing committee for Brazil at # PDAC2020 is coordinated by the Brazilian Mining Industry Development Agency (ADIMB) and will be joined by authorities and executives from the Secretariat of Geology, Mining and Mineral Transformation of the Ministry of Mines and Energy (SGM / MME ), the National Mining Agency (ANM), the Geological Survey of Brazil (CPRM), the Brazilian Mining Institute (IBRAM), the Brazilian Association of Mineral Exploration Companies (ABPM) and the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil).

The Brazilian delegation will exhibit their projects at PDAC, mainly during the Brazilian Mining Day, which will take place on March 2. This day will be dedicated to lectures by companies operating in Brazil and also by authorities, who will expose the new perspectives of the Brazilian government from the recent events involving the sector in relation to the expansion of mining activity in the country. It will be time to provide those present with a comprehensive view of the economy and infrastructure, promoting Brazil as a destination for investments in research and mining.

US $ 32.5 billion will be invested in mining in Brazil

The Brazilian delegation will present updated data on Brazilian mining, where there are more than 9,000 legalized mines in activity. The expected investments in Brazilian mining for the period 2020-2024 is US $ 32.5 billion, higher than the period 2019-2023 (US $ 27.5 billion), according to the Brazilian Mining Institute (IBRAM), the association representing mining companies in Brazil.

The Brazilian government has taken steps to free up many new areas for mineral research, which will stimulate mineral production in the country. To speed up the process, in February, the National Mining Agency (ANM) instituted a maximum period of 120 days to announce the release or veto of mineral research requirements. If the agency does not respond by the end of this period, the application will be approved. Until then, there was no deadline for analysis.

Thus, processes that could last for years will be solved in just 4 months. It is a conditioning factor to attract new investments and boost the geological research segment.

During every day of the event, representatives from different entities in Brazil will be participating in the PDAC in several lectures and business roundtables. On the eve of the opening of the event, on February 29, there will be, between 4 pm and 5:30 pm, an alignment meeting of the Brazilian speakers who will participate in the Brazilian Mining Day. Then, from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm, a reception will be offered by the Brazilian delegation and Canadian authorities to invited PDAC 2020 participants.
