5th Brazil-Canada IST Forum: Smart cities in Brazil - Trends, Challenges & Opportunities
The Brazil-Canada Chamber of Commerce is pleased to invite you to attend the 5th Brazil-Canada IST Forum, focused on Smart Cities in Brazil: Trends, Challenges & Opportunities, that will take place online at the BCCC Event Platform on December 10th, from 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM EST.
The development of Smart and Sustainable Cities has become a big challenge for Brazilian municipalities. With that in mind, the Brazilian Federal Government has created an initiative to provide guidance to the municipalities on how to use digital transformation to achieve a smarter and more sustainable city.
The concept of Smart Cities in Brazil was mistakenly linked to the concept of technology, much influenced by the USA and Europe – but the reality is that the notion of Smart Cities in a developed country is very different from developing countries. In developed countries, Smart Cities is described as how technology can improve quality of life and streamline public services, as well as improve efficiency, and reduce costs on a service that currently exists. In developing countries, those services not always exist – which means something has
to be created and not improved. One of the biggest milestones for Brazil in that sense is the new regulatory framework for Basic Sanitation, which will bring sewage and water treatment services to over 100 million Brazilians that currently don’t have access to this basic service.
The revolution is just starting, and the opportunity to harness the shift to digitalization is colossal. Smart Cities can form a part of the policy response to the challenges resulting of increasing urban population densities and the knock-on effect on housing, transportation, waste, water and energy network infrastructure.
The objective of this event is to showcase to Canadian companies what are the trends, challenges and opportunities in the Brazilian Smart Cities market. We will hear from experts about the current state of Brazilian Smart Cities and how the public and private sector are working together to create cities that are inclusive, people-focused, connected, innovative, safe and sustainable.
As governments deal with the immediate after-effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and seek to get economies up and running again, this is a great momentum to proactively engage with private sector partners to leverage the transformative potential of private capital and realize the opportunity of the global digital infrastructure revolution in the years ahead.
