Brazil-Canada Talks: How Technology Can Support Students Success

The Brazil-Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Preemptor.AI and Janus Conferences, would like to invite you for the next “Brazil-Canada Talks: How Technology Can Support Students Success,” which will take place on Tuesday, November 24th at 9 AM EST.

We invited Laura Arndt, Program Director at Centennial College, Dr Malak Attia, Business Professor, Sheridan College, Phyllis Hildebrandt, Canadian Academic Director for Brazil at Maple Bear Global Schools, Rangana Kumar, Student at Lambton College, Daren Garcia, Founder at JobFill Solutions Inc., and Midierson Maia, Founder at Preemptor.AI, to discuss how schools, colleges and universities can use technology to identify and support students who are having difficulties learning online.

Since Covid-19 hit and the world was forced to shift our lives to a digital mode, academic institutions of all levels had to move fast to adapt to the new normal and start offering their courses virtually. And some students are struggling to adapt to this new reality, forcing institutions to rethink the way they transfer knowledge and find new ways to use technology to increase student engagement and enrollment.

This forum aims to promote a dialogue between school boards, colleges, students and professionals to better understand how new technologies can act as an early warning and remediation platform to highlight at-risk students and get them the assistance they need promptly.

Carolina Albernaz
Director, Business Development and Operations at BCCC
Carolina is an international business specialist with over 20 years’ experience and proven skills in business strategy and market intelligence analysis, international business development, event management and client services. As Director of Business Development at the Brazil-Canada Chamber of Commerce, Carolina is responsible for all day-to-day activities of the Chamber, working close to the Board of Directors and stakeholders to identify and promote business and investment opportunities between Brazil and Canada through events and networking. Carolina is an energetic and customer-focused professional with the ability to work proficiently in several languages. Fluent in Portuguese (native), English and German, with work knowledge of Spanish.

Phyllis Hildebrandt
Canadian Academic Director for Brazil at Maple Bear Global Schools
Phyllis Hildebrandt is the Academic Director for Maple Bear Brazil. She is from Manitoba and has over 30 years leadership experience. She semi-retired as a Superintendent in Manitoba and has spent the last 11 years working in international schools in Africa in leadership roles. Her appointment as the Maple Bear Academic Director to Brazil in January 2020 was quickly circumvented by COVID-19. Despite the fact that Phyllis and the rest of the Maple Bear team are currently working out of home offices, she says the bonds have never been greater.

Daren is the founder of JobFill Solutions Inc. a recruitment agency based in Oakville, Ontario. Daren has been in the IT industry for over 9 years and uses his technical background and experience to assist companies with recruiting for various types of roles.

Midierson Maia
Founder, Preemptor.ai
Midierson Maia is an entrepreneur and seasoned Marketing, Communication and Advertising Professor, with PhD. in Communication Studies. He is the founder of Preemptor AI Canada - a cybersecurity company specialized in Identity Verification in Remote Delivery focused in the Education, Healthcare and Financial Services sectors.Born and raised in Brazil, Midierson launched his company in Canada in 2019 and has been accepted for the Canadian Startup Visa program on January 2020. Currently, his start-up preemptor.ai is being accelerated by Spark Centre, in Oshawa, ON, Canada.
