Toronto (February 29, 2020) – Speaking to Canadian government authorities and members of the Brazilian delegation at the PDAC 2020 at the Four Seasons Hotel yesterday, Brazil’s Mining Secretary Alexandre Vidigal de Oliveira stressed the importance of ongoing changes in the mining sector in Brazil. He expressed the deep commitment of the government to promoting regulatory, legal, and environmental advances that lead to a more attractive investment landscape in the sector.

“We will present to the world all that has already been done to pave the way for a new era for mining activities in Brazil,” said Vidigal, referencing a series of events in which Brazilian government officials and agency representatives will participate during PDAC 2020, from March 1 to 4.

According to Vidigal, the government is implementing changes aiming to expand mineral production in Brazil, such as geological research, innovation, exploration licensing, best practices, and governance. “We firmly intend to transform our mineral deposits into wealth and prosperity,” he said.

Roberto Xavier, president of the Brazilian mission organizing committee and executive director of the Agency for Technological Development of the Brazilian Mineral Industry (ADIMB), highlighted the strategic role of the all-day Brazilian Mining Day event on Monday, March 2.

“The government and international companies operating in Brazil will team up to showcase the new exploration opportunities that are occurring through structural changes in the sector.”

On behalf of the private sector, Nexa Resources CEO Tito Martins observed that Brazil’s program at PDAC provides the  opportunity to debate issues that are essential for the future of mining, such as trends in the mineral industry, sustainable practices, investments in mineral exploration programs, and the increasing presence of women in mining.

“I believe that this time of exchanging experiences will allow us to further improve the practices of mining companies and to strengthen the dialogue with  governmental bodies.”
