BCCC discusses pay equity tools, inclusive behaviours and practices in workplaces

Category: Press-release

Toronto (December 8, 2022) – The Brazil-Canada Chamber of Commerce (BCCC), in partnership with I&D 101, is discussing on December 13, in Toronto, the concepts of diversity, equity and inclusion and ways to promote effective changes in workplaces. The event “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion – Where it starts!” will be held at 9:00 AM at the Rostie Group, 20 Bay Street. The event is supported by BCCC’s sponsor MELLOHAWK Logistics. Access brazilcanchamber.org for more information.

Research on the matter has shown several benefits that diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) initiatives bring to the work environment. Organizations are aware that DE&I practices result in greater productivity, profitability, innovation and team morale. Can also lead to a low rate of employee turnover. These discussions, however, go beyond the human resources departments and must undergo a behavioral change to get rid of unconscious biases that stick around the organizational systems.

“Change starts at the individual level and needs to be modeled by top leadership for it to be effective. It is a cultural change. Leading by example is a catalyst for the entire process,” states Jamile Cruz, CEO and Founder at I&D 101, Chair of the BCCC Diversity and Inclusion Committee and event’s host.

The event will be organized in two parts. In the first one, Jamile will walk the participants through DE&I concepts with the help of the Inclusion Notebook, a tool to self-assess behaviours in support of people in their transformation journeys. She also will discuss how developing individual awareness is an essential step toward becoming more inclusive.

In the second part, she will be joined by Commissioner Kadie Ward, Chief Administrative Officer, Pay Equity Commission at Ontario Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development for a fireside chat to discuss pay equity and other inclusive practices. They will address recommendations and practical examples for the effective implementation of DE&I strategies in organizational environments.

The Brazil-Canada Chamber of Commerce is also sponsored by Vale, Export Development Canada (EDC), 4Mining Corp., Lunding Mining, Brookfield, Cescon Barrieu, BMA Advogados and Toronto Stock Exchange (TMX).
