Brazil-Canada Talks: Education Update - Impersonation & Plagiarism in Remote Delivery
A few month ago, when the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a pandemic and countries started locking down, the world rapidly moved online – and without any notice or preparedness, academic institutions of all levels had to move fast to adapt to the new normal and start offering their courses virtually.
This rapid transition left teachers and professors facing questions, as for many, remote teaching was and still is unfamiliar territory. The impossibility of physical oversight of students and the amount of answer-sharing and homework-for-hire sites, have given rise to concerns about academic misconduct.
Many institutions are still struggling to find the best tools that will enable them to offer the same level of education on an online basis. How can colleges and universities maintain their accreditation status and issue diplomas and degrees when they are not able to verify the identity of the student completing the evaluation? How do you prevent cheating? What are the consequences for students, and how this impacts the institution as a whole?
The objective of this forum is to promote a dialogue between school boards, colleges and universities on how to foster academic integrity in remote educational environments - from the challenges faced by institutions, implications for students and the role of technology in detecting and preventing student fraud in remote delivery.
Don’t miss the opportunity of being part of this discussion! We look forward to seeing you there.
